Week 38

This week Baby Sonny is roughly 6.75 pounds and is about 19 inches from head to toe.  He is the size of a watermelon!  Baby Sonny is preparing for life outside of the womb and is actively shedding his lanugo (downy baby hair) and vernix caseosa (white outer covering).  He continues to add fat to his little frame and all of his organs should be ready for life in the outside world.

I posted the other week that I wanted to remain pregnant a little longer.  I'm over that!  I can't wait for Baby Sonny to arrive and meet him in person!  I'm very fortunate and have had an uncomplicated and easy pregnancy thus far.  I really cannot complain.  However, I want the pregnancy to be over and for Baby Sonny to be here!!!  It's strange because I felt that I kept counting down the weeks until I hit the 40 week mark.  But Baby Sonny can literally arrive at any moment or wait to be induced at 42 weeks.  I don't think he has any intention of leaving the womb any time soon...

My dad was supposed to travel to India this past Saturday for a 2 weeks business trip.  A few days before he was supposed to leave, his trip got postponed.  Hear that Baby Sonny?  You can now arrive ANY time!  No need to wait for your Opa to return back home!

Thanks again for all of your love and support during this pregnancy.  It's a great feeling that Baby Sonny will be entering this world surrounded by a great family and friends.

Week 37 = FULL TERM!!!

This week Baby Sonny is considered to be full term!  Wow!!!  He is about 19 inches from head to toe and weighs between 6-6.5 pounds.  Because he is a boy, he is probably on the larger side of the estimates.  His organs should be fully developed as he prepares for the outside world.

This week we did a few last minute things to get ready for Baby Sonny.  The car seats are installed in our cars.  We washed and folded the last of his clothes.  Even Jack got ready by going to the dog groomers.  Jack is nice and clean and smells oh so good.

I'm still feeling great this far into the pregnancy.  However, I wake up every time that I change sides in bed, probably because it takes a monumental effort to roll over 20+ pounds of baby belly.  Jeff asked me last week what percentage of me wants to keep Baby Sonny inside versus delivering him.  Last week I was 60% wanting to keep him inside and 40% ready for him to be here.  This week I'm 30% wanting to keep him inside and 70% ready for him to be here.  Part of me knows that once he is out, he will never be back inside.  I will miss knowing his every move and having him all to myself while pregnant.  But I cannot wait to meet him and get to know him as a little person!

On Friday we celebrated Pop Pop's 100th Birthday!  Baby Sonny was super active our entire drive down to Scarsdale.  He knew a party was going on because he kicked and wiggled the entire drive down.  Jeff was driving and kept one had on the wheel and one hand on my belly.  We were fortunate to spend time with the birthday boy, Nana, David, Andy, Matt, Hannah, Henry, Suzanne, and Dan.  Dinner was delicious and I think everyone, especially Pop Pop, had a memorable and fantastic time.

Nesting

Nope, not me.  Jeff is currently nesting!  He vacuumed Baby Sonny's room again, mopped the floors, and cleaned the base boards and windows.  He just wanted to make sure the room is extra clean when Baby Sonny gets here.  What a great Dad!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This week we are at 36 weeks.  Baby Sonny is about 18-20 inches long and weighs 5.5-6 pounds.  He is about the size of a crenshaw melon (in case you're not familiar  http://www.produceoasis.com/Items_folder/Fruits/Crenshaw.html ).  Baby Sonny is still packing on the weight, roughly an ounce a day.  I continue to have Braxton-Hicks (warm-up) contractions, nothing painful, nothing regular. But I am getting them much more frequently than last week.

Saturday I had another fantastic shower hosted by Nicole and Ying.  Many of my work colleagues were able to come and we had a great time eating appetizers, lasagna, cake, and cannolis (yum)!  We played "guess the measurement of my belly" game and Sarah got it spot on!  Last time everyone guessed over!  Either I'm getting way bigger or Sarah is just a good estimator.  Sadly, we didn't take any photos during the shower.

No photos this week :(  I had a terrible GI bug yesterday and had to leave work.  I spent the day in bed and Jeff took good care of me.  Today I stayed home as well and tried to rehydrate and rest as much as possible.  Jeff and I spent Valentine's Day making returns and putting stuff away in Baby Sonny's room.  We put the last of his clothes away and played with some of the baby gear.  We tried out the Ergo (baby carrier) and infant insert.  Jeff put a stuffed giraffe in the infant insert and then showed me how to place the insert inside the Ergo and then onto himself.  It was a great evening spending time together and getting ready for Baby Sonny.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.  Thank you for all of your love and support thus far.  Baby Sonny says that he can't wait to meet you all in another few weeks!

Week 35

This week Baby Sonny is roughly 18 to 20 inches from head to toe and weighs about 5 to 5.5 pounds.  His goal over the next few weeks is to gain as much fat and weight as possible!  At 20 weeks, Baby Sonny's fat percentage was about 2%, now it's about 15% and at birth it will be about 30%!  At this point, all of his major organs should be nearly completely developed.

Yesterday Baby Sonny started putting a lot of pressure on my lower pelvis.  I haven't had any pain, just a lot of pressure.  Kind of feels like a bowling ball wants to fall out!  I still continue to have Braxton-Hicks contractions, nothing regular and nothing painful.  It's kind of neat to feel my uterus prepare for birth.

On Saturday we went to a friend's wedding at the Society Room in downtown Hartford.  The ceremony and reception were beautiful, and I had a great time dancing up a storm!

Getting Ready for Baby

We're starting to get ready for the arrival of Baby Sonny!  Jeff and I have now completed most of the decorating for his room.  We're just waiting to hang shadow boxes with his initials until we officially name him.

We're waiting for our glider to arrive, until then we have a rocking chair

His crib! The stuffed animals have found a home until the baby displaces them

Changing station, the shadow boxes with this initials will go above

Spoiled kid, these are just coats, sweaters, and button down shirts.
His onesies, t-shirts and pants are all in the drawers.

Trying to make room for everything!

His swing is assembled

And his stroller is ready to take him for a ride

We're *almost* ready for his arrival.  He just needs 2 more weeks until he is full-term.  WOW!!!

Jeff's Surprise Baby Shower

On Friday night, Jeff's friends from pharmacy school thew him a surprise baby shower!  The planning started in December and it was difficult to keep it a secret.  We both had a great time and I really enjoyed meeting more of Jeff's friends and classmates.  Baby Sonny got spoiled yet again!
